About Our Club

The WVU Amateur Radio Club is a student-run organization for spreading the knowledge and passion of hobbyist amateur radio. Our club is more than 100 years old and among the oldest on campus, with our own lab space and array of radio equipment on the top floor of the WVU Engineering Sciences Building.

So, Why Radio?

From the moment you wake up, you are using radio communication. GPS navigation and text messages are great examples of modern technologies that rely on radio. Ham radio lets you understand how that actually works, maybe on a more fundamental level, but it kind of demystifies the technology of everyday things Ian MacDonnell, N0IAN (President, 2023-25)

Radio is at the heart of the modern world. From cellphone calls to Wi-FI to Bluetooth headphones, "walkie-talkies", and satelite communications, they all use radios. Our club strives to allow members to experiment and learn more on how these systems work in a real-life way, while also connecting them to many other people around the world that share the same intersets.
